can you say b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l? bled is a small lake and ski town in northern slovenia with a church on an island in the middle of the lake. we stayed at a GREAT place called penzion mayer where we had two very large and nice rooms. this place was by far the best place we've stayed on all our vacations. the staff was very nice, the breakfast was awesome (always a plus with me!), there were good cookies at the front desk that reese loved getting every time we passed by, there were english channels on tv!, the beds were very comfortable and it was very kid friendly. what more could you ask for?

the view from our room

our first day was very foggy and misty. we went up to the castle in the above picture, but didn't get to see the great views. :( i thought this picture turned out pretty cool anyway.

the church on the island... we didn't make it out there.

our second day we walked around the whole lake taking in all the different views. we stopped along the way to see the ducks, play at the playgrounds and to simply take our time and relax.

we really enjoyed bled and relaxing (as much as you can with two small children), but by the end of our time we just wanted to be back at home. it was a long trip. we loaded up the car on the last morning and hit the road again. it took us seven hours to get back to budapest with just three stops. once for lunch in ptuj, slovenia, once for matson to eat and reese to release energy and once for gas. not bad at all.
