memorial day weekend

what a weekend! over the past seven memorial days we've spent at least four of them in bandera, tx with our friends the fatherees. bandera is a place that is near and dear to our hearts because we do something there that we LOVE - float the river! (and it's where our relationship really started.) if you are unfamiliar with what "floating the river" entails i'll explain. each person gets a big black inner tube, sits in it and lets her little tush feel the COLD, but beautiful medina river. from there you relax and enjoy where the water takes you, except to the riverbank where there are snakes. the "ride" usually takes about 4-6 hours depending on how long we stop at the rope swing, waterfall and catfish rock. ahhhhhhh, just thinking about this makes me want to go back RIGHT NOW! sorry no pics though. i didn't take a single picture the whole weekend.

it was quite the treat that matt and i got to go to bandera sans kids. they stayed with gram and papa at their house. this was our first time away from matson and third time away from reese. and ya know what? the report from gram was that "they were perfect." perfect! perfect! do you know how good that makes me feel?! gram said they didn't whine or cry the whole time we were gone. i barely believe that b/c of matson. he's just a tad whiny, especially when i even think about putting him down or try to change his diaper. so the idea that he didn't cry the whole 30 hours we were gone is astounding! and the fact that as soon as we walked in the door he started carrying on with his whines is befuddling! BUT, i'm so thankful they were so good with gram and papa. that means there could be a next time! yea!

thanks, mom and dad, for taking great care of our children this weekend!

i don't want to forget that we got to stop in austin on our way back from bandera to have lunch with one of matt's "dawgs", steven harms. we always enjoy seeing him and his girlfriend lauren.

The pleasure was ours! And how cool was it that we mastered the elements under a well-engineered series of umbrellas? Very awesome indeed.
