to get a cell phone in hungary one must have a residence card. well, you can't get your residence card until after you have your permanent housing. since we had a small problem with our lease, it delayed the process a week, so we just got our residence card last week. great! let's go get a cell phone for hilary. well, we struck out last weekend when we went to get the phone because nobody spoke good enough english to help us understand all the documents. matt asked some of the guys at work to help him translate the information so we could figure out which package was best for us. one of the guys offered to go with him to help, so they went to the closest mall (budapest has HUGE malls and lots of them!) only to be told, "i can't sell you a phone because you aren't hungarian." strike out number two. we know we can buy a phone. i guess we just have to find the right place to sell it to us.

Just when you think things are going to be easy! Good news about the hot water and internet though. Perhaps these experiences are to give you insight into what it must have been like to live there during the Communist years!
lol! it sounds funny to us, but I can imagine your frustration. remember, it's for your sanctification!
You are not alone with the telephone drama!!! I wonder if your phone company is in business with the all too reliable(not really!) Telefonica!!!:)
oh, it makes us laugh too, although we shake our heads with the giggle. i mean, what can you do at this point??? matt said the guy that went with him to help with translation was so mad. matt was just used to it.
