yaouch!

poor matson buddy. he's been through the ringer this weekend. friday night during "friday night movie" time matson got a little distracted and headed for the laundry room. now, i don't normally iron when the kids are awake, but this time i thought it would be okay since they were zoned into "the jungle book". i thought i closed the door to the laundry room, but i guess not. matson made his way in there, grabbed the iron with his right hand and put his left hand on the hot iron. yaouch!! we took him to the ER and learned he received second degree burns to the palm of his hand (padded part closest to his fingers) and his fingertips.

the palm of his hand is burned a lot worse than these little finger tips, but i'm not taking pictures of it. (note: he's a lefty, so it's his dominate hand.) it hasn't been fun changing the bandages, but it's getting a little easier each time. and, he's been a champ! it hasn't really bothered him much and he's been so cooperative about keeping it covered, dry and clean. i admit though, i was shocked the first time i saw it. matt had taken him to the ER and then to the pediatrician the next day so i hadn't really seen it until sunday morning when we changed the bandage. he has a giant puffy blister.
everywhere we go people ask what happened to his hand. little kids are especially curious. they all tell me they won't touch a hot iron. i hope matson won't do it again too!
here is a cute photo of the patient playing with his food before the big incident. now he eats with a ziplock bag around his hand so no food stuff gets in there.
to make matson's weekend worse, while we were at a bbq on sunday afternoon, he got bug spray in his eyes, so we had to flush his eyes with water for 10 minutes. THAT was awful!! matt held him over the sink while i poured water over his eyes. i think we all equally hated it, he just let us hear it. his pretty blue eyes are okay now though. and then, about an hour or so later a bigger kid slipped down the slide wiping matson out. he managed to bite a big hole in his tongue. :( he got a popsicle for that one. after that we left the party and we've been okay since. i hope that's the end of his string of accidents!!

Poor Poor Matson!! Cib is looking at the blog with me saying, "Matson Ouchie". :( I can totally relate to this. At this age they are SO quick! And fearless. And, did I mention, quick?! A true recipe for lots of ouchies....especially in our house. Get better Matson!

it still gives me chills every time I think about that little hand. poor baby! that's just another reason ironing should be banned from existence.

O my goodness! I had no idea the accidents continued through the weekend!
I knew there was a reason I refuse to iron :)

let me clarify i was only ironing because i was sewing, not because there were work shirts or something to be pressed. ironing your fabric is an essential part of sewing. my cute fabric buckets did turn out cute though! from now on i will only iron while kids are sleeping.

christie, doesn't he?! i love the pillows!!
