the nap mat

matson needed a nap mat for mother's day out, so i took on the challenge of sewing one for him myself. i had a few frustrations through the process, but i still enjoyed it and i'm thrilled to pieces at the end product! ya know, one of the hardest parts of sewing is actually picking out the fabric. (behind cutting out the fabric - i hate that part.) i'm so picky about what i will and won't use, so i usually draw out that process way longer than it should take. but, i'm happy with the results and that's really what matters! here he is testing it out during cartoons the day before he had to really take a nap on it.
this is it without the child. (oops, maybe i had my finger in the picture.)
and this is what it looks like all rolled up and ready to carry.
the details: i used this tutorial. there is a 1" thick piece of foam in the inside which can be taken out to wash the cover. there's velcro down one side. the pillow has fiber fill (or something washable) in it. i used cotton belting/webbing for the handle instead of covered elastic. and, the blanket is fleece. i even did buttons holes for the first time.

it's really comfy! matson's reports have said he's slept an hour and a half both days. and then he comes home and sleeps an hour more! the first day he went straight to his bed and stood there saying "bed." that's what i call wiped out!
